How to send a birthday cake to Kabul

Short answer

Order a cake from Tohfa, write a message in English / Dari / Pashto, pick same-day or next-day delivery, and our team in Kabul hand-delivers it to your family — with a delivery update the moment it lands. The whole process takes a few minutes online, and the cake is at their door within 3–24 hours.

You’re in Toronto, London, Hamburg, or Sydney. Your mother’s birthday is next week and you can’t fly home. Sending money feels impersonal; mailing a card from abroad takes weeks and won’t arrive in time. The honest answer: order from a local-to-Kabul service that hand-prepares and hand-delivers the gift, so a real person in Afghanistan can stand at the door with the cake on the actual day.

The short version

  1. Open tohfa.af on your phone or laptop.
  2. Browse the cake collection. Pick a pre-designed cake or upload reference notes for a custom design.
  3. Add a personal message in English, Dari, or Pashto. Include the recipient’s name and address in Kabul.
  4. Choose delivery: same-day (express, small surcharge), next-day (free), or schedule a specific date.
  5. Pay in USD with Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.
  6. Get a WhatsApp or email confirmation when the cake is delivered — with a photo.

How long does it actually take?

For pre-designed cakes, 3 hours minimum prep time. For custom-designed cakes (a specific theme, photo reference, or unusual flavour), 12 hours minimum. Delivery itself within Kabul is same-day for express orders placed before 3 PM Kabul time, next-day otherwise.

Operating hours in Kabul are 9 AM to 9 PM local. Orders placed at 2 AM Kabul time (10 PM the night before in London) wait until 9 AM to enter the prep queue.

What about the recipient’s address?

Provide the full address — district number, neighbourhood, a nearby landmark. Kabul addresses can be informal; a landmark like "next to the green mosque" or "third street after the bakery on Karte 3" helps the courier more than a street number alone. Our team in Kabul calls the recipient’s phone before arriving so they’re home.

If the recipient isn’t home, we reschedule for later the same day or next morning at no extra charge. The cake is never left at the door.

Can the cake be customized?

Yes. For a specific flavour, layered cake, or theme, pick a custom cake from the menu and use the "Cake Details" field to describe what you want: writing on top, colours, theme, flavour, anything else. You can also WhatsApp us a reference photo after ordering. We confirm the design before baking.

Common requests: "Happy Birthday Maman" in Dari calligraphy, layered cake with a specific cartoon character, fruit-and-cream traditional Afghan style, sugar-free for diabetic relatives.

What does it cost?

Cakes start at $35 USD with delivery included. Same-day express adds a small surcharge (around $5). There are no hidden delivery fees, no currency conversion shock — you see the total in USD before you confirm. Optional add-ons (balloons, a handwritten message card, a candle pack) are listed on the cake page; pick what you want.

Can I send a cash gift along with the cake?

Yes — add a cash gift in USD or AFN at checkout. We deliver the cash in an envelope alongside the cake. Maximum is $200 USD or 2,500 AFN per order; for larger amounts, message us first via WhatsApp.

How do I know the cake actually arrived?

When the courier hands over the cake, our system fires a WhatsApp or email notification to you — with a photo of the gift on the recipient’s table. That photo is the moment the distance shrinks. It’s why we built Tohfa: to give Afghans abroad something solid in their families’ hands, not just a transfer receipt.

Where in Kabul do you deliver?

Every district. Karte 3, Karte 4, Khair Khana, Wazir Akbar Khan, Shahr-e Naw, Macroyan, Taimani, Qala-e-Fatullah, and beyond. Add the address at checkout; if you’re unsure of the format, our team WhatsApps you to confirm before dispatch.

Cities beyond Kabul (Herat, Mazar-i-Sharif, Kandahar, Jalalabad) are coming soon. If you’re sending to one of those, leave your email on the city page and we’ll tell you the day it goes live.
